Kingdom Historical Trust Inc.’s purpose is to provide event sites for rent by
historical re-enactment education groups and other related groups within Northern
California. Our first event site is centrally located on Route 140, between Merced
and Mariposa in the Yosemite foothills.
Kingdom Historical Trust, Inc. (KHTI for short) was incorporated in the State of
California in 1993 as a 501(c)3 non-profit educational foundation registered with
the IRS. Our original goal was to raise money to purchase a parcel of land
suitable for re-enactment events. We were able to purchase our current site in
1916 and have split our focus since then to include active development of this
land to improve it as a rental property for historical re-enactment events. We also
continue to fundraise so that we can afford these improvements along with the
expenses of land-owning, and, perhaps eventually, so that we can purchase
additional parcels. The solicitation and management of these assets is overseen
by a volunteer Board of Directors working with a staff of volunteer officers, who
are known formally and collectively as Kingdom Historical Trust, Inc. However, we
sometimes call ourselves the Land Fund — that’s who we were and are.
KHTI is the immediate descendant of the “Land Fund” which was started in the
early 1970’s in the West Kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.
(SCA). The Directors of the Land Fund eventually formed KHTI to place a legal
corporate separation between the SCA, Inc. and land ownership. This move also
allowed us to provide more local control of the assets which had been raised. By
having this separation between the groups, we have created some protection as
the land is not owned by the SCA and the assets of the SCA are not available to
KHTI. If the SCA is sued, only the SCA’s assets can be attached. If KHTI is sued,
only KHTI’s assets can be taken. KHTI and the SCA have a working relationship,
but with clear boundaries, with a mutual goal of keeping the two entities clear and
separate within the scope of the Law.
While KHTI does have a long-term relationship with the SCA, we welcome site
rentals from any other historical re-enactment or educational groups who wish to
rent a beautiful, if primitive, site in the Sierra foothills for an event!
